Fire Destroys Over 300 Houses, Renders 95 Households Homeless In Benue

A devastating fire has razed more than 300 houses in Wannue, located in Tarka
Local Government Area of Benue State.
The blaze swept through clusters of thatch structures, small residential units, and
large quantities of farm produce worth millions of naira.
One of the victims, Mr Moses Answa Agule, told The Nation during a phone
conversation that the incident happened while he was away at the market.
He recounted how neighbours urgently alerted him, saying “I got a call from my
neighbours that my thatch houses, which served as yam barn, were on fire,” he
said.
By the time he hurried back, Moses explained that “all his stored foodstuff and the
thatch houses were on fire”.
He called on well-meaning Nigerians and the Benue State Emergency Management
Agency (SEMA) to come to their aid as they struggle to recover from the loss.
Reports indicate that the destroyed items included essential household belongings
and farm produce such as melon, cassava chips, maize, and yams.
The fire, which cause has not yet been established, has displaced about 95
households, leaving many families without shelter.
