Ex-MAN Chair Advises FG Against Banning Sachet Alcohol, Cites Increased Unemployment, Crime

By Ige Adekunle
A Former Chairman of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun
Chapter, Dr Wale Adegbite, has appealed to the Federal Government to reverse the
ban on production and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets.
Recall that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control
(NAFDAC) had banned the production and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets
and small polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles (under 200ml) as of January
2026
Reacting to the ban of alcoholic beverage in sachets, Adegbite said on Wednesday
in Ota, Ogun, that the multiplying effect of downsizing, unemployment and
increased crime rate would take its toll on the country.
The former MAN chairman said that rather than outright ban, the federal
government should direct manufacturers to seek alternative packaging that would
be environment friendly.
“What the manufacturers only need is to look for alternative way to package the
product to prevent indiscriminate dumping of the sachet in our environment.” he
said.
